How does it work ?
A Life Coach does not advise or instruct the client. The coaching process is the art of getting the client to identify their own answers to a stated situation and accepting personal responsibility for taking the appropriate actions to resolve that situation. The client is required to report back to the coach on the action taken.
Any result derives from an action. A key component in achieving results is for the client to recognise that every action will move them closer to, or further away from the result they seek. Each session will close with the client agreeing to undertake certain actions before their next session.
Sessions may be face-to-face, by telephone or email. At the very first session the coach will encourage the client to identify, in his or her own words, the issues or challenges that concern them. The client will then be guided to refine these down to a single top priority issue that is to be dealt with.
Subsequent sessions begin with a review of the actions taken and the results achieved, any lessons learned are discussed and the coach then moves the conversation on.
The client will also be invited to examine their feelings and emotions whilst undertaking the suggested actions.
Life coaching is a process that is controlled by the coach. The coach also determines the time and duration of each appointment. The number of sessions is dictated by the client’s needs and rate of progress. It is unlikely that meaningful results will be delivered in fewer than four sessions and twelve is a fairly normal maximum. Sessions usually reach a natural conclusion.
Each session will typically last at least 45 minutes and will usually be terminated by the coach within 60 minutes. A session consists of a conversation between the coach and the client where the client will do most of the talking. Most coaches and clients find that sessions at weekly or two-weekly intervals yield effective results.
Life coaching is all about where you are now and your brilliant future. It does not dwell on the past.
